Title:Academic Success Coach/Carl Perkins Advisor
Reports to:Vice President for Academic Affairs

Duties and Responsibilities:

STATUS: Full-time, exempt [FLSA Academic Administration Exemption (Ref. 29 CFR 541.600(c))]

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 12-month continuing position

JOB OVERVIEW:  The Academic Success Coach serves as the main contact and resource for an assigned group of students to guide them to achieve academic success.  The Success Coach will counsel, motivate, advise, assist with course selection, and assist with the registration process in order to help all students meet their educational goals.  Coaches will provide an extremely high level of customer service support to students from Connors State College via a variety of communication vehicles.


Success Coach:


  • Support students from registration through graduation
  • Counsel and advise students by phone, email, text, LMS, and video chat
  • Resolve problems by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implementing solutions; escalating unresolved problems.  Follow up to ensure resolution of each issue
  • Reenroll student by focusing on outreach and retention efforts
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and services, across the institution to understand processes, systems, and services and to resolve student issues
  • Work closely with campus staff to address student issues
  • Closely track students’ progress, through communication and analytics, for each academic term, to ensure class attendance and academic progress
  • Identify at-risk students and determine potential issues and connect them to tutoring, and/or correct any existing issues
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Operate a variety of computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Internet, Blackboard, and other applications as required on a daily basis
  • Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and judgment in providing support to the Office of Academic Affairs




  • Work with students to ensure a solid academic plan and ensure continued registration
  • Clarify program requirements related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogues, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources including institutional policies and procedures
  • Provide accurate individualized basic academic advising to a group of assigned students
  • Point of contact for new students once the initial application process is completed
  • Uphold the academic standards of the institution
  • May assist in proctoring examinations and other qualifying requirements or activities required by the college

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Previous experience developing students in success skills areas (time management, study skills, using Campus resources, working with faculty, prioritization, etc.) at the two-year community college level preferred


  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible
  • Must be able to work at the location that best serves the institutional needs of Connors State College
  • Some travel required to serve institutional needs
  • Some irregular work hours required to serve institutional needs
