CSC Ranches and Livestock
CSC offers students the
opportunity for a hands on learning experience that is second to
none. The cow herd consists of pure bred and crossbred cows.
The purebred operation features Simmental, Angus, and Santa
Gertrudis. The crossbred cows are used mainly as recips to
assist in the development of our purebred herds. CSC showcases
these operations on its two major ranches: the Gary Harding Research
Station and the CSC school ranch. These facilities consist of
1,300 acres of which to use for labs and events. Select
students are employed by the college to assist with the programs at
each facility.

CSC Sheep
Production
CSC provides its students with accessibility to
many segments of the livestock industry. The sheep flock
consists of approximately 30 head of ewes with the focus on club
lamb production. Genetics have been pooled from major club
lamb breeders throughout the country. Currently, lambs are
being fed out at the school farm and are used in many contests,
labs, and for practice classes for our livestock judging team.
Students workers assist with every aspect of the sheep operation.
CSC Swine Production
CSC currently operates 10 purebred and crossbred
sows focused on the development of replacement females and the
marketing of 4-H and FFA projects. Sows are artificially
inseminated using boars from the top boar studs in the country.
There has been a tremendous increase in the quality of the swine
produced in recent years.
