More than 50 people came to the public forum held at the Connors State College Warner campus to discuss the future of the college aquatic center Thursday January 17th. President of Connors State Dr. Tim Faltyn addressed the crowd of students, community members, college staff and camp directors by sharing written materials that outlined a comprehensive safety assessment of the CSC aquatic center. The pool has been closed since March 2012 because an initial safety report indicated that several mechanical and structural systems we not safe. At that time Dr. Faltyn requested a comprehensive safety assessment be done and options to repair the facility before considering opening the facility to the public. With the assessment and repair options in hand, Dr. Faltyn shared the results and indicated that the cost to repair the facility was over 1.8 million. He shared the master plan priorities for the college and how the aquatics facility fits into the institution’s facility planning moving forward.
Following the presentation of the safety assessment results, Dr.Faltyn opened the floor for questions and comments by attendees and after much discussion on the future of the pool the overall consensus was to re-purpose the facility. Attendees also expressed excitement and support for the special wellness class enrollment days to be held and to have the option of enrolling in wellness classes in Muskogee.
