The Connors State College (CSC) livestock judging team traveled to Kansas Sept. 19-22 for competition at the Flint Hills Classic Livestock Judging Contest. At the Manhattan contest, the freshmen won third high team overall, had a top 10 overall individual, a top 10 sheep individual, and numerous other top five teams.
The freshmen team from Warner, Okla., finished third overall with a score of 4,511 under Fort Scott Community College and Redlands Community College. The team won the sheep division, was fourth overall in swine, and fifth high team in reasons. The contest consisted of 14-placing classes and six sets of reasons.
Team member Zane Webster, a freshman, agriculture education major from San Simon, Ariz., was seventh high individual overall, with a score of 924. Allison Tarvin, a freshman agriculture communications major from Mount Olivet, Ky., placed 10th individually in the sheep division.
“The Flint Hills Classic was a tough contest that was a challenge to our students, though very beneficial,” said Chase Reed, CSC assistant livestock judging coach. “We hope to build on our mistakes and regroup for the Tulsa contest.”
