Connors State College’s Perry Keith won his 1,400th game as head coach of the Cowboys baseball team, when top-ranked CSC took a 4-3 victory over Carl Albert State College Sunday.
Keith, who is in his 29th year at the helm of the Connors State baseball program, is now 1,400-402 following the win. The Cowboys are now 25-3 entering a Tuesday night game with Crowder Community College at 6 p.m. at Biff Thompson Field.
Concerning the 1,400th victory Keith said, “It’s like any other, it’s good to get. We had a lot of good players and people play for me. We have just been blessed with good players.
“Year in and year out the guys have been able to do good things for our program, “said Keith.
The Cowboys broke out to a 1-lead in the third inning. Christian Perez connected for his second of the season to put Connors on top 1-0.
Cowboys made it 3-0 in the fifth inning when Perez opened the inning with a base hit. He scored on a double by Yariel Gonzalez for a 2-0 Cowboys lead. Jarrard Poteete then brought home Gonzalez with a base hit to make it 3-0.
Then in the ninth inning Gonzalez connected for his four homer of the season.
Carl Albert then scored three runs in its half of the ninth with two outs on a 3-run homer against Landon Bradley (6-0), who went the distance. Bradley scattered seven hits, gave up a walk and had seven strike outs.
