Deese Named CSC Interim Head Softball Coach

DeeseOn May 31, 2016, Connors State College named assistant softball coach Michael Deese as interim Head Softball Coach for the Connors State Cowgirls, effective immediately. Deese has worked as the assistant softball coach since 2012, which allows for a smooth transition to the position.

“We’ve been impressed with Coach Deese’s work ethic and attention to detail, along with his ability to relate to the student athletes,” said Dr. Ron Ramming, Interim President of Connors State College. “In order to maintain continuity in the program, he was a logical selection for this head coaching position.”

Deese is a graduate of Penn State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and is a NASM certified Performance Enhancement Specialist. Currently he is working on a Master of Science in Sports Administration through East Central University.

Deese joined Connors State, coming from the Auburn University staff where he served as a hitting instructor, while working with the Tigers’ outfielders, infielders and catchers.

Before his stint at Auburn, Deese coached high school baseball at Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia. He was an All-Region player at St. Francis High School and played at Young Harris Junior College in north Georgia, where he was an All-Region selection.

“We’re excited to have Coach Deese take on this new roll,” said Mike Jackson, Connors State Dean of Students. “He knows the girls, the program, and the conference, and we think it’s an exciting time for our Cowgirl softball.”

While at Connors, Deese has been instrumental in the development of the team and in the careers of his players. Since his arrival in 2012, Connors State has had one First Team All-American, 10 First Team All-Region selections, 8 Second Team All-Region selections, 8 Third Team All-Region selections, one Marucci Elite Hitter Award Winner (Nations Best Hitter), and three university transfers.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead this program,” said Deese. “The players that have come through have set a great foundation; they’ve all bought into a system that works, which sets a high bar for the future as we start to build a championship mindset and way of life. Connors State College and the Cowgirl Softball program both provide a unique experience that I hope will always hold a special place in the hearts of every player.”

Deese is replacing former head coach Rick Carbone, who recently took over the head coaching position at Muskogee High School.
