Federal Student Loans – Schedule of Reduction (SOR)

Beginning Fall 2026, new federal rules will affect how much you can receive in federal student loans based on your enrollment.

What is SOR?

Schedule of Reduction (SOR) means your federal student loan amount is based on the number of credit hours you are enrolled in.

SOR requirements apply to all Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans and Graduate PLUS Loans offered under the legacy provisions.

At Connors State College:

  • Full-time enrollment: 12 or more credit hours
  • Less than full-time: Fewer than 12 credit hours
  • You must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to receive a Federal Direct Loan.

How will my loan be reduced?

Your federal student loan amount will be reduced based on the number of credit hours you are enrolled in compared with full-time enrollment.

Example:

If your full-time loan eligibility is $3,750 and you are enrolled in 6 credit hours:

6 credit hours ÷ 12 credit hours = 50%

$3,750 × 50% = $1,875

Your federal student loan eligibility would be $1,875.

Important: Dropping a Class Can Reduce Your Loan

If you drop a class and your enrollment decreases, your federal student loan eligibility will be recalculated based on your new enrollment level.

This could reduce the amount of federal student loans you are eligible to receive and may result in a balance owed to Connors State College.
