The Connors State College Division of Agriculture hosted its 69th Annual Aggie Day Interscholastic Competition on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Warner Campus. During the day of contests, more than 1,725 students vied for top team and individual honors, while over 240 different 4-H Clubs and FFA Chapters from across Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Texas were represented.
Corporate sponsors for the 2015 event included American Farmers and Ranchers, T&D Meats, Natural Resources Conservation Service, OSU-IT and the University of Arkansas.
Results and contest descriptions are as follows.
AGRONOMY: The agronomy career development event consists of seed analysis, grain grading, and plant and seed identification.
1st Place: Burlington FFA Chapter: members Gavin McCullough, Collin Botta, Caitlin Flackman, and Sadie Crusinbery.
2nd Place: Kingfisher FFA Chapter: members Chelsea Johnson, Haynes Lafferty, Kaci Jackson, and Bryon Helt.

DAIRY PRODUCTS: The dairy foods career development event requires members to complete a written exam on milk production and marketing; evaluate milk samples for flavor and quality; identify cheeses; evaluate sediment pads and milker parts for defects; and demonstrate problem-solving skills in distinguishing real and artificial dairy foods, merchandising dairy foods and current issues in marketing dairy foods.

ELECTRICITY: The electricity career development event consists of a written examination and one skill area. Each participant completes at least one hands-on performance associated with either electrical circuits or electric motors.

ENTOMOLOGY: The entomology career development event includes spot identification of insects or other arthropods using a list of species provided and pictorial keys.

2nd Place: Spiro FFA Chapter: members Nathaniel Sebo, Landon Davis, and Jessica Roeder.

FARM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT: During the farm business management career development event, the participants demonstrated knowledge and showed their abilities to apply economic principles to agriculture and agribusiness by completing a written test and solving farm-analysis problems.

FARM SURVEY: The soil and water conservation career development event consists of a written examination. In addition, each participant must complete at least one specific hands-on performance in one of the following areas: land measurement and surveying, soil erosion or drainage and irrigation.

FLORICULTURE: The purpose of the floriculture career development event is to promote interest in production and retailing of flowers. The floriculture career development event allows members to demonstrate proficiency in plant identification and production. The skills identified include flower arranging, propagation, growing, harvesting and marketing.

MEATS JUDGING: The meats evaluation and technology career development event requires members to complete a written test; judge quality, yield and grade of beef carcasses; and evaluate and place beef, lamb and pork carcasses. Participants also identify various cuts of meat in relation to species, prime and retail cuts.

NURSERY: The nursery/landscape career development event requires participants to complete a written exam, identify plant materials and landscape plans, and demonstrate practical nursery/landscaping skills. The contest includes landscaping, propagation, potting, pruning, plant disorders, weed identification and control, merchandising, plant material measurement and interpersonal relations and salesmanship.
