Connors State basketball coaches Bill Muse and Eddie Kite held camps this summer for both boys and girls ages 8-17 on the CSC campus.
Coach Muse the mens coach won his third consecutive Oklahoma Collegiate Conference championship last summer.
Our camps went very well and all the kids enjoyed themselves and learned a great deal about the game of basketball, said Muse.
The Cowboy camp was held in three segments during the month of June, and July. During June an overnight and day camp was held. Those wishing to attend the overnight camp stayed at McClarren Hall where they were served their meals in the college cafeteria.
The June camp involved team play with league games played each day. Fundamental skills on offense and defense were taught, along with a shooting competition and a free throw tournament. The program also included individual instruction to develop each players ability and skill.
Every phase of basketball was included in the three camps to develop an all round basketball player, which included the fundamentals of defense, shooting, faking, jumping, dribbling, footwork, movement without the ball, psychology, academic emphasis, conditioning and agility.
Coach Kite, who has led the Cowgirls program for the past eight seasons, won the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference last season with a 27-5 record, and has been named coach of the year two of the past three years.
We have girls from first grade to ninth grade attend our camp and with such a young group we focused the fundamentals, said Kite. We did have some team games, with 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 drills. But we focused mainly on individual skills.
The Cowgirls camp was an overnight camp in which they stayed on the Connors State campus at McClarren Hall and enjoyed all you can eat meals in the college cafeteria.
The future Cowgirls received individual instruction by the coaching staff, which included Kites newest assistant, Heather Wimblerly. Campers participated in league games daily, and were taught fundamental skills on offense.
Every phase of the girls game was covered by the coaching staff of Connors, along with some top high school coaches in the area, which included Justin Kana of Warner High School.
Awards were presented to each age group for one-on-one play, three-on-three champions and hustle awards.
